With the Tokyo Games Show going on, Atlus dropped a new and detailed trailer with new information on Persona 3 Reload (2024)! Here’s a new look into some characters, battles, and music.
About Persona 3 Reload
Known as the breakaway title of the Persona series, Persona 3 (2006) very quickly became a fan favorite. With its faster pace of the JRPG format, amazing sense of style, pristine music, and deep, involved character stories, there is no wonder as to why the Persona series thereafter became its own product. The popularity ended up eventually sparking Persona 3 FES (2007) and Persona 3 Portable (2009), remasters of the game with new content, characters, fights, and even a new female protagonist. With the evolution of modern titles (such as Persona 5 (2017)), fans have been begging for a revisit to Iwatodai in a new style. And so, it’s releasing February 2nd, 2024!
Follow the namable, silent protagonist (Makoto Yuki) as he discovers the new atmosphere of Gekkoukan High. After meeting some friends in his new dorms, they drag him into S.E.E.S., a band of persona users dedicated to taking down shadows during the dark hour. Their mission: to scale the top of this mysterious tower called Tartarus, and discover the mystery of what’s at the top of this building locked between one day and the next. Who will they come to face?
This article contains very minor spoilers for Persona 3 Reload (2024).
This game contains mature content and themes, including violence and self-harm. You have been warned. If you or a loved one is suffering from depression and self harm, please reach out for help or call the Suicide and Crisis Hotline (988).
“Conflicting Fates” Trailer
Atlus kicked the day off with a trailer representing a mysterious group of three assassins, under the name of Strega.
Along with some intermittent pieces of S.E.E.S., fans finally get the confirmation of a deeper story with Takaya, Chidori, and Jin. It’s great to see representation of characters previously regarded as lackluster finally get some spotlight. With these mysterious people treading around the dark hour alongside the main cast, it’s apparent to see there’ll be a clashing of goals in the upcoming title. With amazing new cutscenes, screenshots, models, sprites, and development, Strega looks better, more powerful, and more colorful than ever before
And of course, who better to end off the trailer with than everyone’s favorite air-headed velvet room attendant, Elizabeth? Showing the small worldly interactions that fans loved in the Persona 3 series was a genius play; a great balance to the heavy atmosphere of the rest of the trailer. It’s confirmed: Igor does have a long nose.
Along with new scenes comes new music. Most notably, a reincarnation of one of the overworld themes, Changing Seasons. With new vocals and a much more funky tone, it seems to glue the previous fan favorite together with the leitmotifs of some other notable tracks. This reimagining of the soundtrack only seems to build upon the ideas of what fans fell in love with back in 2006.
This is also the first time fans get to hear the cast’s new voice actors! Though there is no official accreditations as of yet, there is already much more emotion behind everyone’s words. The feelings conveyed through each performance only seem to build up more and more hype for this upcoming title.
Character Art & Spotlights
Along with some long-awaited character scenes, fans were also treated to what seems like the last batch of main character art. Featuring all the members of Strega, along with Elizabeth, Shuji, Pharos, and Ryoji, the latest batch helps round off the story-centric cast. With new lights, some design edits, and a whole new array of pixels for high definition, Persona 3 Reload’s character design does not hold back.
With spotlights on characters who may have had rough designs in the past, many fans feel redeemed with characters like Jin getting the treatment he deserves. Though his design seemed to lack something in some of the older titles, his bright green attire really stands out and makes him a flashy inclusion in this newest drop.
Battle Details
Along with new story information, the trailer also featured some more detailed clips of mid-battle sequences. With specialized animations, cutscenes, and the new “Shift” mechanic, battles look better than ever before. Even with the emphasis on Fuuka and Mitsuru, both navigators at some point in the game, the trailer seems to impose the idea that even they may get the opportunity to join in on the shadow-bashing fun. Although Mitsuru does later become a staple party member, the introduction of Fuuka’s possibilities is a Fuuka Friday fan’s dream.
