Just after the final episode of the first season aired on September 20th, it was announced that the anime adaptation of My Happy Marriage is already set to get a second season.
My Happy Marriage
The twelve episode anime series began airing in July of 2023 after being announced last year. It is based on the light novel series written by Akumi Agitogi and illustrated by Tsukiho Tsukioka, as well as the manga adaptation of the series illustrated by Rito Kohsaka. The anime was produced by Japanese animation studio Kinema Citrus, which is also the studio behind the anime adaptation of The Rising of the Shield Hero. The final episode aired on September 20, and hot on the heels of the finale came the announcement that My Happy Marriage has been granted a second season.
My Happy Marriage takes place in a world where, while many people possess supernatural powers, they are in decline. The story follows Miyo Saimori, a young woman who was born into a family with a strong supernatural bloodline but does not possess any powers herself. She is sold off into marriage to a notoriously cruel and emotionally cold soldier named Kiyoka Kudou. While this arrangement gets her away from a life of servitude under her stepmother, Miyo suddenly faces a life with a fiancé so heartless that he has driven his previous brides-to-be to flee before their weddings. However, as Miyo spends time with Kiyoka, she begins to see another side of him, and the possibility of true love begins to blossom. At its heart it is a sweet, romantic story, but there is plenty of intrigue and supernatural elements mixed in as well.
The announcement for season two came from the official X account (formerly Twitter) of the anime, and included a new visual for the announcement. A couple of other celebratory visuals by the illustrators of both the light novel series and the manga were also released. The Japanese voice actors of main characters Miyo and Kiyoka (Rena Ueda and Kaito Ishikawa respectively) filmed a short English-subtitled video sharing the news and expressing their own excitement for the story to continue. No plot information or a release window have been confirmed at this time, so fans should keep an eye out for further details. The first season is currently streaming on Netflix.
