As the worldwide premiere of the Netflix One Piece Live Action draws near, Netflix teamed up with Street Food Cinema to provide fans an exclusive screening of the first episode. Street Food Cinema and Netflix have a tour planned to promote the launch of the One Piece Live Action show. Their first tour stop was Santa Monica Pier. Not only did they provide a screening of the first episode, but they gave fans an unforgettable experience during the One Piece fan event at the Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles.
One Piece Fan Event - Santa Monica Pier
Very little was announced as to what the event would entail. Street Food Cinema had teased “an exclusive first look at Episode 101 (S1E1) with private access to rides at Pacific Park, Photo Opps, Giveaways, food and more!”
Street Food Cinema provided fans with directions to parking and check-in locations. Fans could check in as early as 3:30 pm to guarantee entrance to the event. Unfortunately, an RSVP did not guarantee entry, which would be on a first come, first serve basis. Fans that were able to check-in received a Straw Hat! It was a beautiful sight to see everyone wearing a Straw Hat.
The event was held at the Santa Monica Pier and a section was closed off to the public. As fans entered, they could hear music blasting from a very special unexpected guest– R&B singer, Anderson Paak. Paak DJed for about an hour and half and even performed some of his original songs. The music created an exciting ambiance where fans could walk around and experience the event.
As fans walked around the event, the pier was decorated with “WANTED” posters of some of the pirates that Luffy is expected to meet in the first few arcs of the show including Alvida, Bellamy, Arlong, and more!
Interactive Booths
Fans were also provided with some photo opp booths and interactive stations at the One Piece fan event.
Near the entrance, guests could sign their own names next to Eichiro Oda’s drawing and signature. Adjacent to the signing board, there was a Den Den Mushi from One Piece displayed. The Den Den Mushi serves as a communication device in the show and was an incredible prop to witness in person.
There was a mini Going Merry ship where fans could hop on and take a picture! Attendees could also receive custom WANTED posters with their picture and their name free of cost.
One Piece Event Food and Drinks
Near the DJ set stage, attendees could go to the “Baratie” Bar and try the signature alcoholic beverages named after Luffy and Buggy’s Devil Fruit.
“The Gum Gum” specialty cocktail consisted of Bacardi Rum, Simply Mixology, Strawberry Guava Mojito, and Sprite with a splash of Blue Curacao and grenadine for a sweet grape flavor.
“The Chop Chop” cocktail was more of a sweet fruity flavor made from Dulce Vida Tequila, Simply Mixology, Lime Margarita, Cranberry Mango Juice, and a splash of grenadine.
Additionally, free ice cream and popcorn was provided and there was no limit as to how often guests could return for more.
Rides
At the entrance to Pacific Pier, the staff was handing out “Fun Cards” for fans to play carnival games. The carnival games allowed fans to win exclusive merch.
Roses did not require tickets, but fans could ride as many times as they wanted!
Screening
Fans were advised beforehand to bring their own chairs or blankets to watch the premiere of the first episode. Chairs and blankets were also available for sale and rent.
Without revealing too much, fans witnessed for the very first time the exclusive premier of the first live action episode. Viewers cheered as each of the One Piece characters first popped on the screen. One Piece fans seemed optimistic before and after the episode.
Final Surprise at the One Piece Fan Event
After the episode, Netflix and Street Food Cinema had another surprise in store: a drone show!
During the drone show, the famous Santa Monica Ferris Wheel changed to The Straw Hats Jolly Roger logo.
One Piece Fan Event Final Thoughts
This is the first stop of the tour before they move onto different countries to stream the premiere.
Although fans did not know what to expect from this event, Netflix and Street Food Cinema made sure to spoil their fans and make them feel special. Although tickets were limited, fans that could not make it in could still watch the episode and the drone show from the beach.
Overall, the event was well organized. A lot of effort clearly went into making the experience intimate and special. Everyone in attendance was having a blast enjoying the food, the rides, and the show. The event was a pleasant experience and fans of all genres can only hope that more events like these will appear. For now, fans can expect to experience the same or even better at the next tour spots!
