New Persona 5 Spin-Off Mobile Game Announced

New characters, a new story, and a whole new way to play – Persona: Phantom of the Night is the newest game announced for the Persona series, and this time it’ll be mobile.

Persona 5 is one of the most critically acclaimed games of the past decade, and it won Game of the Year at the 2017 Game Awards and the 2018 NAVGTR. The game has an assortment of other awards for its art direction, character design, voice acting, and graphics. In 2019, the game was released again as Persona 5: Royal, and it featured new characters and new endings. Persona 5: Royal is also the highest rating PC on Metacritic, with a score of 97%.

With this success, it’s no surprise that Atlus, who developed the game, has continued to put out spin-offs of the game. Persona: Phantom of the Night, also referred to as P5X, will become the newest spin-off added to the series. Unlike the other Persona games, which are limited to PC and console play, P5X will be available for mobile play across iOS, Android, and Windows devices. But don’t let the idea of it being a mobile game scare you, the game still appears to be on par in graphics and mechanics as the PC and console versions of the previous games.

The story of the game will be familiar to existing fans:

Your character is attending a new school, your family is “traveling abroad”, and through luck, you stumble across an alternate universe where you must battle demons and monsters to save the day. Persona 5 fans will also be excited to see that Joker, the protagonist of Persona 5, and the rest of the cast will also make an appearance.

Public testing of the game is to start on March 29, which will hopefully give more details about the game and if fans should prepare for any gacha, microtransactions, or payment systems that the mobile game will hold.

Want to play P5X when it releases, but you don’t want to spend roughly 150 hours of story to meet the characters? You can watch Persona 5 – The Animation on Crunchyroll.

What are your thoughts on the announcement? Would you rather the game be on PC/console, or are you excited about it being a mobile game? Let us know in the comments below!
