The Forgers found family found their way to the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento on January 3rd for SacAnime. Alex Organ (Loid Forger), Natalie Van Sistine (Yor Forger) and Megan Shipman (Anya Forger) were reunited for a panel to discuss the spy-assassin-telepath comedy anime Spy x Family.
The cast was honored to hear that Spy x Family is some people’s gateway anime and recalled some of their earliest anime. Shipman and Van Sistine chose classic anime like Pokémon, Sailor Moon, Fruits Basket and Yu-Gi-Oh, while Organ said that Thundercats and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got him into animation/cartoons.
Q&A
The panel mostly discussed the professional side of the industry. Fans are always curious about how to become voice actors. Van Sistine noted that it’s much more accessible now than when they started voice acting.
“Now, you could literally open up social media, and people would be like, ‘I’m passing for this indie animation, and it will actually get made’, and people will actually watch it!” Van Sistine said.
Shipman said that when she first started, she bought Yuri Lowenthal’s (Sasuke, Naruto franchise) book. But now, there are plenty of other resources to help aspiring actors get their feet in the door.
“Now there’s a million websites, a million resources and other actors who have talked about what they’ve done. There’s so much information,” Shipman said.
One fan asked the cast how they would convince him to watch Spy x Family since his friends in the audience were attempting to convince him. Organ and Shipman said that it’s the perfect blend of different genres.
“You know how there’s lots of genres? There’s comedy, action, wholesome, romance… this show is all of them,” Organ said.
“You’re going to find a genre you like in the show, and you’re going to be like ‘well that was awesome!’” Shipman added. “It’s a very good balance of a little bit of everything.”
