Back at the Pasadena Convention Center for another jam-packed year, Anime Pasadena 2025 gathered all anime fans in Downtown Pasadena. Anime fans, young and old, maneuvered the halls to meet with their favorite voice actors, spend their hard-earned money in Artist Alley, and attend meet-ups with other like-minded cosplayers and anime enjoyers. Anime Pasadena hosted a multitude of cast panels, including a Dragon Ball English cast panel.
The panel consisted of Sean Schemmel (Goku), Kyle Herbert (Adult Gohan/Narrator), Dameon Clarke (Cell), Dawn M. Bennett (Kale) and Zeno Robinson (Gamma 2). The cast discussed what has kept Dragon Ball so relevant for decades, with Sean Schemmel pointing out the magnitude of the late Akira Toriyama’s legacy that continues to inspire both people and the arts, especially in the face of AI.

Dameon Clarke also added that the underlying morals that Dragon Ball has are what keep it so relevant, citing that the overall takeaways from the series are doing the right thing and that Dragon Ball is a creative story about the bonds between people. Zeno Robinson chimed in on Dameon’s response, stating that Toriyama’s art style and unique storytelling, combined with the late mangaka’s humor, resonate with people.
Goku’s Teachings to the World
An additional question brought up is what Goku teaches. Sean mentioned that Goku’s personality as a fighter constantly changes. However, he still manages to keep his childlike optimism throughout the series. He advised the audience not to become jaded and to keep their eagerness and happiness as they continue to age. Dameon also commented that people shouldn’t compare themselves to one another and should keep the core elements of Dragon Ball with you.
