Major League Baseball and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba are collaborating for the MLB Tokyo Series, as revealed in the teaser short anime.
MLB x Demon Slayer
The trailer showcases Urokodaki, Tanjiro’s mentor, serving as one of the commentators for the game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs. Urokodaki becomes enamored with Shohei Ohtani’s playing abilities, seeing Tanjiro in him, before the trailer flashes to iconic clips from Demon Slayer. In the trailer, Urokodaki adds that 1913 was the first time an American team went to Japan during the Taisho period. Exactly when Demon Slayer takes place.
Five Japanese players are highlighted: Seiya Suzuki and Shota Imanaga from the Chicago Cubs, along with Roki Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Shohei Ohtani from the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the trailer. Ohtani is the star player of the trailer, even getting his own breathing technique called ‘Batting Breathing.’
MLB Tokyo Series
The MLB Tokyo Series 2025 will be held on March 15th and 16th. The Chicago Cubs will play the Hanshin Tigers, while the LA Dodgers, will play the Yomiuri Giants, on the 15th. On the 16th, they’ll switch competitors, so the Cubs play the Giants, and the Dodgers play the Tigers, with collaboration merchandise available for both games.
Following the two games, the MLB opening games will occur on March 18th and 19th, with the Dodgers playing the Cubs at the Tokyo Dome.Â
This isn’t the first time MLB has collaborated with an anime, with the Boston Red Sox set to host their second One Piece Theme Night soon. Similarly, MLB also collaborated with Pokémon GO for this season with club-branded Gyms and PokéStops in-game.
Demon Slayer’s latest film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinite Castle, was recently announced to be released in theaters on September 12, so the collaboration is perfectly timed to keep Demon Slayer fans excited and MLB fans interested. Until the film’s official release, all four Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba seasons are available on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
