Anime Pasadena held its annual convention in the heart of Downtown Pasadena at the Pasadena Convention Center, hosting long time anime fans and first time convention goers. From navigating Artist Alley, grabbing autographs from renowned voice actors, and attending cast panels, the event was an enjoyable and memorable 2-day experience. Among the panels was a Dragon Ball English cast panel.

Many of the English voice actors were present for the panel. The cast included Sean Schemmel (Goku), Eric Vale (Trunks), Kyle Herbert (Adult Gohan/Narrator), Daman Mills (Freiza), Dameon Clarke (Cell), Justin Cook (Raditz), and Monica Rial (Bulma). The Dragon Ball cast talked about their experiences in voicing their characters in the new Dragon Ball based fighting game Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
Daman Mills discussed the challenges faced when directing the cast:
“It’s much easier to voice characters for a TV show because you can visually see what the character is doing and plan accordingly. For Sparking Zero, we went off of spreadsheets and the script the client provided us. We really only had context clues to go off of and used the Japanese audio to kind of set the tone for what we were looking for.”
Another topic the panelists discussed was some of their favorite lines in the Dragon Ball series.
Sean Schemmel said that his favorite voice line was the iconic, “I forgot my tractor!” said in Dragon Ball Super, as well as his scream for when Goku first goes Super Sayian. He mentioned that neither himself nor the team knew if he could even scream like that.
Monica Rial said that her favorite voice line from Bulma was, “I brought the world’s mightiest heroes! And Krillin…” explaining that she enjoyed the more comedic tone of Bulma’s character in Dragon Ball Super.
Daman Mills expressed his enjoyment of voicing Frieza, saying that, “I just like calling people monkeys.” Also, he enjoys the creative jabs and little quips that Frieza gives towards the sayians and the other fighters. Furthermore, he added that during the direction of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, he would send the case voice memos as Freiza, which made for an enjoyable experience.
About the Series
