“They say that when an object is well loved it is eventually imbued with a soul. So then what about the garbage – trash – that’s been thrown away? What is that imbued with?”
Studio Bones has announced an anime adaptation of Kodansha’s new action manga Gachiakuta set for a 2025 release.
What is Gachiakuta about?
Rudo has lived his whole life on a floating island, in the slums, forever shadowed by the rich and frivolous. Treated like trash by the wealthy and poor alike, Rudo’s only comfort is his adoptive father Regto, who taught him to find value in everything, even garbage. But one day, Rudo is falsely accused of killing Regto. He is sentenced to be thrown off the side, into the abyss, where trash and criminals are forever discarded.
As Rudo falls, he swears vengeance, not just on the person who killed Regto, but also on everyone who ever treated him like garbage. To his surprise, he wakes up on the surface, in a mountain of trash. He soon realizes that going back is easier said than done. With giant monsters chasing him and toxic fumes choking him, Rudo must awaken to a mysterious power if he hopes to survive and exact his revenge.
Gachiakuta is written and illustrated by Kei Urana with graffiti design by Hideyoshi Andou. The manga began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2022 and has been compiled into 11 volumes. Before, Kei Urana (aka Kanaru) had released two one-shot manga and worked as an assistant for Atsushi Ohkubo on his manga Fire Force. Urana’s skill is on full display with striking character designs and intense action sequences. Ohkubo’s influence can definitely be felt with extreme angles and close-ups, a gritty no-holds-barred setting, and an infinitely adaptable power system. The anime is sure to live up to the hype.
