Sometimes in life, we all need a break. We all need something to take the edge off, to help us unwind and relax after a stressful day. Whether it be a nice beverage or a few hours playing your favorite video game, this new anime aims to provide that same sense of comfort and relaxation. Here’s the first episode review of BARTENDER Glass of God.
BARTENDER Glass of God Episode 1 Review
BARTENDER Glass of God starts off fairly straightforward with the plot; our main characters Miwa Kurushima (voiced by Yoshino Nanjo) and Yukari Higuchi (voiced by Haruka Shiraishi) are looking for a bartender to run the private bar in their new hotel. The only problem is that no one seems to have the skills they’re looking for, nor can they make the drink called ‘Glass of God.’ They have a few small encounters with Ryu Sasakura (voiced by Takuma Terashima), who ultimately catches their eyes when they realize he’s a bartender and one heck of a good one.
The animation is pleasant to look at, providing soothing visuals to the senses. The intro theme only adds to the tranquil and calming aesthetic the anime is trying to convey. The information provided about how to make certain alcoholic drinks along with the skills bartenders need to have is both refreshing and informative. It provides a glimpse into the lives of a lot of bartenders and the hard work that goes into the job. While they have to make sure the client is satisfied, they also have to make sure the client is safe as well, along with making drinks to the standards given to them.
Also, the characters are intriguing, with Miwa being the more responsible and mature one. Yukari is more childlike and upbeat. Ryu is still a mystery to the audience however, giving off the same calm and almost graceful energy as Decim from Death Parade with a mindset that rivals Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler. It’s clear that Ryu enjoys bartending. He enjoys serving drinks and giving every patron that sits at his bar the perfect drink to soothe the soul. However, it leaves the audience wondering how such a man can make drinks this perfect, and has them craving more to find out exactly who he is and how he even got into bartending in the first place.
Final Thoughts
As first episodes go, BARTENDER Glass of God provides a very wholesome atmosphere with interesting characters and a solid plot. It makes the audience curious to see where the storyline will go with more episodes. Will it stay this same wholesome anime in the long run? Or will it dive into more psychological territory as the plot thickens? If you’re a fan of soothing anime, alcoholic beverages, or even just need something new to watch and keep you content, BARTENDER Glass of God will be sure to satisfy your needs and maybe even exceed them along the way.
