The critically acclaimed Netflix animated series, Blue Eye Samurai, has officially been renewed for a second season. The announcement came on December 11, just a little over a month after the release of the first season.
About Blue Eye Samurai
Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu (voiced by Maya Erksine), a half-white, half-Japanese woman who has trained as a master samurai and is living in disguise as a man. Over the course of the eight episodes of season one, viewers join her on her quest for revenge against four white men during Japan’s Edo period, when the Tokugawa shogunate closed Japan’s borders to the outside world.
Created and written by husband and wife team Michael Green and Amber Noizum, the first season was animated by the French animation studio, Blue Spirit. All eight episodes were released in November on Netflix, with the first episode being available for free on Youtube as well. It was met with praise from both viewers and critics. The show currently boasts a 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a 96% audience score on the site. The animation in particular has been highly praised, as well as the focus on character. The story does not hold back on the violence and bloodshed, and the stylized visuals make it a memorable watch. It was a delightful surprise for an original animated show, and the official announcement that it is getting a second season is certainly welcome news for fans.
Season Two Information
While no further information about the second season has been released just yet, Green and Noizum released a joint statement about the renewal.
“We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue."
More information on season two of Blue Eye Samurai will be announced at a later date.
