Crunchyroll revealed today at New York Comic Con that Kaiju No. 8 will be coming to its global streaming platform in April 2024. Subbed and dubbed episodes will be simulcasted exclusively in 200+ countries and territories weekly following its Japan broadcast.

Originally a manga series by Naoya Matsumoto, Kaiju No. 8 is a science fantasy shounen series set to be animated by Production I.G (GHOST IN THE SHELL; PSYCHO-PASS). Studio Khara (Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition, Shin Godzilla) will oversee the kaiju artwork and design. The Japanese word “Kaiju” is frequently used in science fiction media where enormous monsters attack people and wreak havoc.

After making a promise to his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro, to wipe out the Kaiju together, the main character Kafka Hibino’s dream is to join the Japan Defense Force so they can fulfill their promise to one another. Unforeseen events force the pair to part ways, preventing them from fulfilling this vow. Kafka goes on to work for Monster Sweeper, Inc., a professional cleaning service specializing in cleaning up the aftermath of Kaiju battles. Meanwhile, Mina serves as the Captain of the Defense Force’s 3rd Division.

One day at work, Kafka encounters Reno Ichikawa, a resilient young man determined to join the Defense Force. After hearing Reno’s resolve, Kafka’s ambitions of joining the Defense Force resurface. He vows to work hard until he’s good enough to stand beside Mina in battle and carry out their childhood pledge.

During the Crunchyroll Industry Panel, Naoya Matsumoto shared this heartfelt message with the audience:

“Hello from Japan to everyone attending New York Comic-Con. I'm the author of Kaiju No. 8, Naoya Matsumoto. It's a story about someone struggling in a harsh world without ever giving up, in the hopes of leading people into an even slightly brighter future. To anyone dealing with the complexities of reality that reads this manga, I hope it can help make your future a little brighter, too. Next year when Kaiju No. 8 begins to air in America and worldwide, I'll be looking forward to seeing your reactions. I hope you're looking forward to it, too!”
