The anime adaptation of Naoya Matsumoto’s popular manga series, Kaiju No. 8, has released a brand new teaser trailer, which has revealed the three main cast as well as a release date.
Kaiju No. 8 Anime Adaptation
Kaiju No. 8 began serialization in 2020 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ online application and website, with the English version being released by Viz Media. Earlier this year, the Kaiju No. 8 manga hit 11 million copies in circulation, with a significant increase following the announcement of the anime adaptation. Set in a world plagued by monsters called kaiju, Kaiju No. 8 follows Kafka Hibino, a man stuck in a job cleaning up the aftermath of kaiju attacks after failing the entrance exam for the Japan Defense Force, the organization tasked with taking the monsters down.
He has been left behind by his childhood friend Mina Ashiro, who has become a famous and talented captain of the force. When he meets Reno Ichikawa at work and learns of a rule change that will allow him to try for the defense force again, his ambition to fight the kaiju is reignited. However, a freak accident leads to him being able to turn into a kaiju himself. Refusing to let this turn of events stop him, Kafka forges ahead into the world of kaiju fighters while trying to avoid being caught as a one of the enemy.
Production I.G Studio, the animation studio behind Psycho-Pass, Haikyu!, and most recently Heavenly Delusion, will be animating, while Studio Khara of the Rebuild the Evangelion film series will supervise the design and artwork of the kaiju.
The trailer also revealed the key cast members:
- Kafka Hibino: Masaya Fukunishi (Tokyo Revengers, Haikyu!)
- Reno Ichikawa: Wataru Katou (The Legendary Hero is Dead!)
- Mina Ashiro: Asami Seto (Jujutsu Kaisen, Bungo Stray Dogs)
The Kaiju No. 8 anime is set to premier in April of 2024.
