Hot Digi-ty Dog, it’s Digimon Day! Today, August 1st, we celebrate Odaiba Day and commemorate the seven original digidestined who made their first journey into the digital world on August 1st, 1999. This day is widely recognized and celebrated by Digimon fans and marks the unofficial anniversary of the series. To celebrate, we are bringing you a top five list of the most memorable Digimon.
5. Gatomon
Gatomon is an unusual cat Digimon who is able to maintain her champion form. When she first appears, Gatomon is a part of Myotismon’s evil legion. The evil legion is set on taking over the human world. Once she meets Kari, her destined partner, she is able to regain her memories and take a stand with the other hero Digimon. As a means of redemption, she digi-volves into her ultimate form, “Angewomon,” and defeats her former leader in a fight alongside Angemon. Gatomon continues to stand for the digidestined through season 2 and reaches other evolutions such as “Nefertimon” and “Silphymon.”
4. Gallantmon
It is extremely hard to find a Digimon as lovable as Guilmon. This is why he is one of the most memorable Digimon. His aloof, fun-loving nature, playful attitude, and goofiness make him a fan-favorite. It’s almost hard to believe that he merges with his partner, Takato, to become Gallantmon. Guilmon is a Holy Virus type and Mega level Digimon who has incredible speed and strength in combat. He extirpates his foes with mind blowing powers like “Lightning Joust,” “Docking Grani,” and the ascended “Crimson Mode.”
3. Angemon
Great things come in small packages, and Angemon is proof of that. How often does a flying hamster turn into an A-kicking digital angel? The answer is once, circa spring of the year 2000, in the Digimon series. When the digi-destined first entered the digital world, the constant threat of Devimon and his black gears lingered over them. Incrementally, they were able to digivolve their partners to meet their challenges, but Pantamon seemed to be the late bloomer through the process. However, with TK’s help and a little determination, they helped him become one of the most powerful champions Digimon in existence. If Angemon’s hand is the one dealing your fate.
2. Omnimon
During the debut of the first Digimon movie, Omnimon was introduced by combining the mega Digievolutions of Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon. Wielding a grey sword in one hand and the Garuru Cannon in the other, this Digimon was able to go head to head with some of the strongest out there. This put to bed the classic debate regarding who was better, Agumon or Gabumon, both clearly overshadowed by the magnificence of Omnimon. Even though the two often saw conflict, Tai and Matt’s teamwork is undeniably impactful. In Digimon Adventure Tri, they put their differences aside, and allow for Omnimon to return to reassert his dominance.
1. Beelzemon
The most memorable Digimon on this list is Impmon. Impmon only ever wanted what we all want: a little respect and gratitude. When he ran away from his master’s home, he came to the conclusion that he doesn’t need humans and pursues achieving ultimate strength instead. In this pursuit, he found an opportunity with Caturamon, who offered him the ability to Digivolve in exchange for the Tamers’ lives.
He quickly took this deal and digivolved into the beastly Beelzemon. Beelzemon is an Evil King Digimon and is one of the “Seven Great Demon Lords,” representing Venus and the sin of Gluttony. He shook the series foundations by killing Leomon. However, after seeing the errors of his ways, he forms an alliance with the tamers to defeat the D-Reaper. When Beelzemon goes blast mode, then you know he means business. In our opinion, he is one of the coolest Digimon of all time.
