Fans of the anime Sk8 the Infinity finally have news about upcoming content! In August of 2022, the Sk8 Project Team confirmed a second season of Sk8 the Infinity as well as an OVA. Since that announcement, no further news was released regarding either projects, leaving fans in restless anticipation. However, on January 21, 2024 at the Sk8 event in Okinawa, Japan, the content for the OVA was finally revealed.
Sk8 the Infinity OVA
Tasuku Hatanaka and Chiaki Kobayashi (the Japanese voice actors for Reki Kyan and Langa Hasegawa) announced that the OVA will focus on Joe and Cherry during their high school years. While no further information or release date was given, a visual of teenage Joe and Cherry in their high school uniforms accompanied the announcement.
In season one of Sk8 the Infinity, flashbacks to Joe and Cherry’s teenage years reveal that the two were devoted skaters and best friends in their youth, just as they are in the present. The young pair soon met Adam, who would go on to become the most dangerous skater known to S.
As Joe, Cherry, and Adam are the three founders of S, it is possible that the OVA will shed some light on how the teens went on to create an underground skate competition. However, as the OVA and accompanying visual is focused solely on Joe and Cherry, it is also possible that the story will follow the two best friends and their relationship, showing how they came to be where they are in the present.
About the Anime
Sk8 the Infinity takes place in Okinawa, Japan, and follows a group of skateboarders who compete in an underground competition known as “S.” After losing his father, Canadian newcomer Langa Hasegawa and his mother move to Japan. There, he is quickly befriended by the free-spirited skateboarder/skateboard designer, Reki Kyan. Reki takes Langa under his wing and teaches him all there is to know about skateboarding and finding joy in the least expected places. With the loveable main duo and a cast of unforgettable supporting characters including Joe and Cherry, Sk8 the Infinity is a must-watch.
